Having qualified with the North London School of Sports Massage in July 2007, Nick (my husband) and I set up our own sports massage business working from home (eventually having an extension build to accommodate a dedicated treatment room). Initially we worked within a multidiscipline physiotherapy clinic which gave us invaluable experience.
Having graduated, that was the starting point of our journey, we continued by undertaking further CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses, a significant number of them at NLSSM, enhancing our skills with the likes of Kinesio taping, seated chair massage, Active Isolated Stretching, advanced medical acupuncture and more. We have discovered in this profession you are forever learning, you can specialise in areas that are of interest to you, all in all it keeps your interested and challenged.
Nine years on, we have achieved so much; having a financially successful clinic which has a very respected reputation in our home city of St Albans. We have worked with the English Institute of Sport & TASS. Both of us worked at the London Olympics & Paralympics, we have been paid supervisors regularly at high profile events such as the London Marathon. It also opened the door for me to become a board member/director for 5 years with the Sports Massage Association our leading Professional Association. None of this would have been achievable if it was not for a lot of hard work, commitment, setting goals and being highly self motivated.
A huge credit also needs to go to Susan Findlay and all our Tutors at NLSSM who gave us a fantastic foundation to build our careers and reinforce skills which are the basis of every treatment we provide today.
